| Additional information |
This piece was issued to mark the centenary of a veterans' organization in Deurne, a borough of Antwerp with a strong tradition of civic commemorative issues through the 1970s and 1980s. Belgian local and associative medallic coinage of this period was produced in substantial numbers for fraternal organizations, municipal anniversaries, and trade guilds — most struck by private mints under license rather than the Royal Mint in Brussels.
The alpaca alloy — a nickel-silver variant — was the standard commercial choice for these associative pieces, selected for its silver-like appearance at a fraction of the cost.
