Obverse description The obverse is printed in intaglio and letterpress, with the issuer name and promise-to-pay text across the upper portion, reading 'Northern Bank Limited — Promise to pay the bearer on demand One Hundred Pounds at Belfast.' A three-masted sailing ship vignette occupies the top centre, flanked by intricate guilloche panels on both borders bearing the denomination ONE HUNDRED in vertical letterpress. A bold blue numeral 100 underprint spans the centre of the note, the date 1ST JANUARY 1943 appears twice along the upper field, and a manuscript signature is placed at the lower right.
