Bolivia's 1975 silver commemoratives were issued for the sesquicentennial of Bolivian independence, marking 150 years since the republic was proclaimed in August 1825 following the decisive Battle of Tumusla — the final engagement of the Spanish-American wars of independence on South American soil. The series drew considerable interest from the international collector market at issue, partly because Bolivia had been largely absent from the commemorative silver coinage scene for decades.
KM#194 is the circulation-strike variant within a broader commemorative program that included proof issues for export. The .933 fine silver standard is notably higher than the .900 that dominated Latin American commemorative coinage of the period.
