Additional information

Booischot is a small village in the Antwerp province, and this piece is a local patronal festival token — issued by a riding or horse-lovers' society ("Paardenliefhebbers" translates literally as "horse enthusiasts") for their centenary or an anniversary gathering. Belgian village societies issued these by the hundreds throughout the twentieth century, typically commissioning a local foundry in small runs for use at annual fetes, processions, or livestock fairs. The GMJ reference places it firmly within Joël Glotz and Marcel Mersbrugghe's cataloguing of Belgian jetons de sociétés.
