Obverse description Facing left, the head of the nymph Arethusa is depicted in fine archaic style, her hair drawn back and secured in a sphendone adorned with two stars. She wears a single-drop pendant earring and a pearl necklace, rendered with careful attention to detail characteristic of Syracusan die-engraving. A small globule appears in the field both before and behind her neck. The ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ arcs around the design within the coin's field.
