| Beschrijving keerzijde | A male figure, identified as the river-god Skylas or Acheloios in the guise of a man-headed sea-serpent, depicted in vigorous motion, his human torso emerging from a coiling serpentine body that curves dramatically to fill the entire field. The musculature of the upper body is rendered with considerable anatomical detail, the long hair streaming behind as the creature twists upon itself. No legend appears on the reverse. The composition is of exceptional dynamism and sculptural quality, characteristic of the finest Syracusan die-engravers of the early fourth century BC. |
