Banco Ambrosiano was not an issuing bank in any statutory sense — this is a promotional or commemorative scrip piece, almost certainly produced for internal circulation among shareholders or as a publicity item, not as a banknote with legal tender status. The bank itself would collapse spectacularly in 1982, the largest bank failure in Italian postwar history, with Roberto Calvi found hanging beneath Blackfriars Bridge in London. The scandal implicated the Vatican Bank, the P2 masonic lodge, and organized crime networks across three continents.
F. Ghezzi in Corsico was a small commercial security printer, not one of the major Italian intaglio houses — which is consistent with scrip rather than fiduciary currency production.
