The P#16 was among the last notes issued under the Royal Lao government before the Pathet Lao takeover in December 1975 abolished the monarchy and dissolved the Banque Nationale du Laos entirely. Sisavang Vatthana, the king referenced in the note's name, was the final monarch of Laos — he abdicated under pressure in November 1975 and died in a re-education camp, likely in 1978 or 1980, though the exact date remains unconfirmed by official sources.
The overlap in the 1974–1976 dating range means some examples were technically issued after the political order that authorized them had already collapsed.
