Hungary's post-communist monetary reform of 1992 introduced a redesigned circulating series intended to shed the iconography of the People's Republic era. The 100 forint occupied an awkward position in that reform — large enough to matter in daily transactions, yet rapidly eroded by inflation that continued well into the decade, shrinking its practical purchasing power to near irrelevance before the series ended.
The nickel brass composition was a deliberate compromise, balancing vending machine compatibility against production cost.
