The "Dovies" denomination — a phonetic rendering of the Dutch "duiveltjes" — was never official Belgian currency. These patinated bronze pieces were issued by the municipality of Loker, a small Flemish village in West Flanders, as part of the broader Belgian tradition of local token coinage that flourished in the early 1980s alongside town festivals and folkloric revivals. Loker's annual Kattenstoet-adjacent celebrations provided both the pretext and the distribution mechanism.
