Tuvalu's numismatic program has long been operated through the Perth Mint under licensing arrangements that allow the island nation — with a population under 12,000 and no mint of its own — to issue legal tender coins almost entirely for the collector market. This piece commemorates the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, the first year of the C2 generation, whose split rear window coupe body was designed under Larry Shinoda and approved by Bill Mitchell over GM's styling divisions in a process that took the better part of three years.
The split window lasted exactly one model year before Zora Arkus-Duntov had it removed for obstructing rear visibility.
