Additional information

Yugoslavia secured the hosting rights for the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics in 1977, beating out Sapporo and Falun in the IOC vote. It was the first Winter Games held in a socialist country, and the Yugoslav government used the occasion aggressively for both international prestige and hard currency generation — the latter explaining the proliferation of commemorative silver issues like this one, struck in 1983 and sold largely to foreign collectors rather than circulated domestically.

The .925 silver series spanning multiple sports disciplines was issued across several denominations. KM#98 is among the mid-tier pieces by face value within that program.
