The "100 Antoninus" designation refers to the 1983 commemoration of the 1,900th anniversary of Emperor Antoninus Pius's founding of the Roman settlement at Feluy, in the Hainaut province of what is now Belgium. These local civic commemoratives were authorized through Belgium's longstanding tradition of municipal medal-coinage, and Feluy — a small commune — used the occasion to anchor its Roman-era origins to a specific imperial reign rather than the vaguer Gallo-Roman attribution most Belgian towns claim.
The patinated bronze finish was applied deliberately at the mint, not an artifact of age.
