Aanvullende informatie

Lissewege is a medieval village in West Flanders whose Cistercian abbey — the Abdij Ter Doest — was among the wealthiest in the Low Countries during the 13th century, largely on the back of its agricultural holdings in the Flemish polders. This token belongs to Belgium's flourishing 1980s local currency movement, in which hundreds of municipalities, festivals, and cultural bodies issued copper rounds redeemable for goods or services at specific events, a practice the Belgian government tolerated but never formally regulated.
