| Descrizione del dritto | The Hungarian coat of arms, depicting the traditional quartered shield with the Árpád stripes and the apostolic double cross on a mound, is displayed centrally in the field, surmounted by the Holy Crown of Saint Stephen with its distinctive crooked cross finial. Two winged angels in classical pose flank the shield on either side, their hands raised in support of the crown above. The mint mark 'BP.' appears to the lower left and the date '2001' to the lower right of the shield. Issued to mark the 1000th anniversary of the Hungarian state, which in Hungarian historical reckoning dates to Stephen I's coronation on Christmas Day of the year 1000 — a ceremony performed with a crown sent by Pope Sylvester II. The millennial commemoration generated an unusually dense series of Hungarian collector issues across 1999–2001, of which this is among the most substantial by gold content.
The .986 fineness is deliberately archaic, matching historic Hungarian gold coinage standards rather than the more common modern .900 or .9999 benchmarks.
