China restructured its Panda bullion program in 2016, abandoning the fixed 1 troy ounce standard it had used since 1983 in favor of a metric 30-gram specification — a change driven partly by domestic policy preference for metric weights and partly by a desire to distinguish the series from Western bullion competitors.
