Reverse description Central motif depicts a fully bloomed Chinese peony (Paeonia suffruticosa) rendered in vivid multicolor enamel, with large deep-red petals and bright green leaves occupying the central and lower field. A naturalistic butterfly in flight appears above and to the right of the bloom. To the left, a stylized cursive Chinese calligraphic inscription is rendered in silver relief, with a small red seal mark (fang zhang) in the lower left area. A four-character Chinese legend reading '國色天香' (meaning 'national beauty and heavenly fragrance,' a classical epithet for the peony) arcs along the upper border of the coin.
