Obverse description Portrait of King George VI in an oval vignette at lower left, rendered in intaglio against a green guilloche underprint. The denomination TEN SHILLINGS is printed in large bold letterpress at centre, with the value also rendered in Arabic and Hindi scripts beneath. Serial numbers appear at upper left and upper right, with the date 1st June 1939 and place name Nairobi at lower centre, accompanied by three facsimile signatures of the Members of the East African Currency Board.

Reverse description Central vignette of a lion passant set within an oval guilloche frame, with a mountain range in the background rendered in fine intaglio engraving. Numeral 10 appears in ornate cartouches at left and right, flanked by intricate lathe-work border designs. The denomination TEN SHILLINGS is inscribed in two horizontal panels above and below the central vignette, with corner numerals 10 repeated at all four corners.
