San Marino's gold scudi series of the 1970s was produced almost exclusively for the collector market — the republic's mint agreements with Italy allowed it to strike commemorative issues independently, a privilege it exploited aggressively during this decade. Actual circulation of these pieces was never the intent.
Fr#13 is among the heavier gold issues in the San Marino catalog for this period, struck at the Rome mint under the terms of the customs union arrangement that has governed San Marino's currency production since 1897.
