| Reverse description | A colorized scene depicting a handball player in mid-leap, arm raised to shoot, wearing a jersey rendered in the red and green colors of the Transnistrian flag. A handball goal with red and white posts is positioned to the right, with a stylized net pattern filling the background in dark tones. The entire composition is set against a black field with silver-relief netting forming a ball motif around the perimeter. The Cyrillic inscription 'Гандбол' (Handball) appears in the lower portion of the field in italic lettering. |

Transnistria's commemorative program has long served the breakaway state's interest in international legitimacy — issuing coins denominated in a currency accepted nowhere outside its own borders, struck in precious metals few locals will ever handle. The handball issue appeared ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where handball has featured since 1972 for men and 1976 for women.
Transnistria fields no independent Olympic team and is unrecognized by the IOC.
