Comments

The Banco de Guatemala was established in 1946 following the Bretton Woods-aligned monetary reforms of the Arévalo administration, which dismantled the old Banco Central and created a proper central bank with exclusive note-issuing authority. This 10 Quetzales note belongs to the first substantive series issued under that new framework — a politically significant clean break from the colonial-era banking arrangements that had persisted well into the twentieth century.

The sixteen-year print run covered two Pick references because ABNC re-entered the series number when signature combinations changed with successive administrations. Same plates, different signatories.
