The Arabic inscription 'عيد المعلم' (Day of the Teacher) is rendered in raised lettering across the central horizontal band dividing the composition. An ornate decorative wreath or foliate arch frames the upper portion of the scene, while a complementary decorative border element appears at the lower field. Egypt's National Education Day commemorates the birth of the scholar and reformer Rifaa al-Tahtawi, whose 19th-century advocacy for modern secular schooling laid the groundwork for the state education system. This 1979 issue appeared during the late Sadat period, when Egypt was investing heavily in educational infrastructure as part of broader modernization efforts — and facing international isolation following the Camp David Accords signed just the previous year.
