The "Corrective Revolution" referenced on this coin marks Anwar Sadat's internal coup of May 1971, in which he purged the Arab Socialist Union of Nasserist hardliners and pro-Soviet factions — consolidating power less than a year after succeeding Nasser. Sadat reframed the event as a corrective rather than a coup, and its commemoration on circulating coinage through the late 1970s and into the early 1980s served his ongoing effort to distinguish his regime ideologically from his predecessor's.
The coin was still being struck the year Sadat was assassinated — October 1981.
