| Obverse description | Central field features a circular cartouche containing the denomination and issuer name rendered in ornate Arabic calligraphy. Surrounding the central cartouche, the Arabic legend arcs along the upper and lower periphery, with the Hijri date 1402 to the right and the Gregorian date 1982 to the left in Eastern Arabic numerals. The lower legend commemorates the millenary of al-Azhar. The entire design is executed in a bold relief calligraphic style characteristic of Egyptian commemorative issues, within a reeded border. |
