Eglosheim, a small settlement near Ludwigsburg in Württemberg, hosted one of the many German prisoner-of-war camps established after the rapid influx of Allied and Eastern Front captives from 1914 onward. Camp scrip like this 10 Pfennig note was issued not out of administrative convenience alone — German military authorities were legally obligated under the 1907 Hague Convention to pay working prisoners, and internal camp currency was the preferred mechanism for doing so without injecting Reichsmark into what was effectively a closed economy.
The pink paper distinguishes this denomination within the Eglosheim series, a simple but effective anti-counterfeiting measure requiring no printing sophistication whatsoever.
