| 正面描述 | The municipal arms of Danzig occupy the central field, depicting an oval shield bearing two crosses and a crown, supported by elaborate foliate and floral mantling. A winged angelic figure with outstretched wings surmounts the shield at the top. The legend STADT DANZIG curves in Fraktur blackletter script along the upper periphery, while the date 1920 is placed in Roman numerals across the lower field. Small decorative floral ornaments are scattered symmetrically within the field. |

| 背面描述 | The large numeral '10' representing the denomination is displayed in bold relief within a rectangular cartouche with notched, arrow-headed lateral extensions, centered in the field. A decorative floral spray ornament is positioned above the cartouche, and a foliate scroll device appears below. The entire design is enclosed by a beaded border running along the full circumference of the coin. The field is otherwise plain, with the denomination serving as the sole textual element. |

Danzig's 1920 silver coinage was struck during a legally anomalous moment: the city had just been declared a Free City under the Treaty of Versailles but its formal constitution wasn't ratified until 1920, leaving its monetary authority in a provisional limbo. These early issues predate the establishment of the Bank of Danzig, which wasn't chartered until 1924, when the gulden replaced this transitional pfennig coinage entirely. The silver content was a deliberate signal of fiscal seriousness from a city-state acutely aware that its political legitimacy was fragile and contested by both Germany and Poland.
