The "¡Tierra, Tierra!" series commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Cuban agrarian reform law of May 1959, one of the Revolution's earliest and most consequential legislative acts — it nationalized holdings over roughly 400 hectares and effectively dismantled the old plantation economy. By 1989, Cuba was producing these collector-oriented silver issues largely for hard currency export, a quiet irony given the reform's original anti-capitalist premise.
