Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features a finely detailed relief of the Spanish armored cruiser Cristóbal Colón under full steam, depicted listing and foundering in turbulent seas, with billowing smoke issuing from her funnels, evoking the Battle of Santiago de Cuba of 1898. To the upper right, an oval portrait medallion displays the bearded uniformed bust of a Spanish naval officer, presented in three-quarter view. Coastal vegetation is rendered in the lower right field. The arcing legend GUERRA HISPANO-CUBANO-NORTEAMERICANA / BATALLA NAVAL DE SANTIAGO DE CUBA occupies the upper rim, the ship's name "CRISTOBAL COLON" appears in the lower field, and the word CENTENARIO with the date 1998 is inscribed along the lower rim.
