| Opmerkingen |
The Banco de Londres y Río de La Plata was a British overseas bank incorporated in London in 1862 and among the first foreign commercial banks to establish a serious branch presence in Argentina. The Rosario branch — serving what was then a rapidly expanding grain and cattle export hub on the Paraná — issued its own notes distinct from the Buenos Aires head office series, which is why Pick separates them.
By 1866, provincial note issue in Argentina was a patchwork of competing private bank currencies with no central redemption guarantee. British-backed paper carried a degree of trust that domestic issuers often couldn't claim.
