The Isle of Man gained full control over its own coinage in 1971 when the Coinage Act transferred minting authority from the Crown to the Manx government — a shift that made the island unusually prolific in issuing distinct circulating types for its population of under 60,000. These 10 pence pieces were struck at the Pobjoy Mint in Surrey, which held the Manx contract through much of the 1970s. The two KM variants reflect a change in the fine detail of the map outline between production runs.
