10 Öre - Oscar II

Oscar II came to the Swedish throne in 1872 following the death of his brother Charles XV, inheriting a coinage system still mid-transition from the riksdaler to the new krona standard adopted under the Scandinavian Monetary Union of 1873. These öre pieces in billon — a deliberately debased silver alloy — were part of the transitional small denomination coinage produced before the full krona system displaced the old riksdaler-based fractions entirely. The type's short production window of just three years reflects how quickly the new monetary framework was implemented.
