The emperor holds a mappa or globus in one hand, rendered in the characteristic flat, stylized manner of late Byzantine minor coinage. A partially visible Greek legend surrounds the effigy in the field, though heavily worn and only fragmentarily legible on this specimen. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered copper issues from the Antioch mint of this period. |
