Obverse description Facing bust of Emperor Mauricius Tiberius, shown in three-quarter view, wearing an imperial crown surmounted by a cross and adorned with pendilia, and draped in consular or military attire. The emperor holds a mappa or globus in one hand, rendered in the characteristic flat, stylized manner of late Byzantine minor coinage. A partially visible Greek legend surrounds the effigy in the field, though heavily worn and only fragmentarily legible on this specimen. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered copper issues from the Antioch mint of this period.
