Obverse description Facing or three-quarter bust of Emperor Justinian I, helmeted and cuirassed, occupying the central field. The emperor is depicted in full imperial military regalia, consistent with Byzantine bronze coinage of the sixth century. The surrounding field is heavily worn, with the obverse legend partially visible around the periphery. The portrait conveys the standard imperial effigy type employed at the Thessalonica mint during Justinian's reign.
