| Additional information |
Issued to commemorate Iustin Moisescu, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church from 1977 until his death in 1986, this coin appeared as part of Romania's ongoing commemorative silver program marking ecclesiastical and cultural figures. Moisescu navigated the Romanian Orthodox Church through some of the most constrained years of Ceaușescu's regime, maintaining institutional continuity under conditions of aggressive state atheism.
The KM#269 attribution places it firmly within the National Bank's post-communist commemorative series, which expanded significantly after 2000 as Romania reasserted religious and national identity through its currency program.
