| Additional information |
Zhovkva's Renaissance-era synagogue, built in the early 17th century, was one of the fortified synagogues of the Ruthenian Voivodeship — a type designed to serve as a defensive bastion during Tatar and Cossack raids. The structure survived centuries of conflict only to be gutted during the Nazi occupation, when it was used as a stable and munitions store. By 2012 it remained a roofless ruin, and this coin was issued partly in connection with ongoing restoration efforts supported by Ukrainian and international Jewish heritage organizations.
