Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse features the tryzub (trident), the national emblem of Ukraine, displayed within a shield at the top center of the field. Flanking the central legends is an ornate decorative wreath composed of naturalistically rendered oak branches with acorns, guelder rose with berries, thistle, and other native flora, accompanied by a small songbird perched at the left and a butterfly and snail among the foliage at the right. The Cyrillic legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ arcs across the center field, with the denomination 10 ГРИВЕНЬ and the date 2012 inscribed below, while the fineness notation Ag 925 and weight 31,1 appear on either side of the numeral 10. The coin is struck in proof quality with a frosted relief design against a mirror-polished field.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts two sterlets (Acipenser ruthenus) rendered in high relief, one swimming diagonally across the upper field and a second shown in a downward-diving posture in the lower portion of the design, conveying a sense of natural movement through water. A stylized wave motif with air bubbles occupies the lower left field, evoking an aquatic environment. The Latin binomial legend ACIPENSER RUTHENUS curves along the upper border, while the Ukrainian vernacular name СТЕРЛЯДЬ ПРІСНОВОДНА arcs along the lower border in Cyrillic characters. The contrast between the frosted sculptural fish and the mirror-polished background enhances the naturalistic, scientific illustration quality of the design.
