The date 2012 appears in the upper field above the central emblem. The denomination 10 and the currency name ГРИВЕНЬ are inscribed in the lower field. The circular legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ runs along the upper periphery in Cyrillic, framed by a beaded inner border with decorative foliate elements at either side.

Aanvullende informatie

Kalnyshevsky was the last Koshovy Otaman of the Zaporozhian Sich, arrested in 1775 when Catherine II dissolved the Sich by imperial decree and dispatched Russian troops to dismantle it. He was imprisoned in the Solovetsky Monastery in the White Sea — one of the most remote and brutal places of confinement in the Russian Empire — where he remained for 25 years, dying there around 1803 at what was reportedly over 110 years of age. He was not rehabilitated in Russian imperial memory; Ukrainian reclamation of his legacy came centuries later.

This coin was issued the same year Ukraine formally reinterred his remains with state honors in Kyiv.
