Aanvullende informatie

Ivano-Frankivsk — known as Stanisławów under Polish rule and Stanislau under Austrian administration — was founded in 1662 by the Polish magnate Andrzej Potocki as a private fortified town. The city changed hands repeatedly across centuries of contested Central European borders, and its current name dates only to 1962, when Soviet authorities renamed it to honor the Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko. This commemorative is one in the National Bank of Ukraine's long-running regional cities series, which began issuing individual oblast center coins through the 2000s and 2010s.
