| Opmerkingen |
Braunau am Inn sits on the Austrian bank of the Inn River directly opposite the Bavarian town of Simbach, and in 1920 the border crossing there was one of the more economically fraught in the newly partitioned German-speaking world. This Heller notgeld was issued as small-change coinage collapsed out of circulation — a problem shared by virtually every Austrian municipality in the immediate postwar period, but acutely felt in a border town where cross-river commerce complicated any local monetary arrangement.
The print run of over twelve million is substantial for a municipal emergency issue of this size, suggesting aggressive distribution rather than ceremonial printing. S. v. Weech's designer credit is unusual — most notgeld at this level went to local printers working from generic templates.
