Andrichsfurt is a small Upper Austrian municipality, and this 10 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian towns and villages between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the chronic small-change shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy. Municipal authorities were legally permitted to issue their own emergency fractional currency, and hundreds did, often printing runs so small that survival rates are genuinely low for the more obscure communes.
The two signatories — Haßmann as deputy mayor and Fuchs as Bürgermeister — authenticate this as an officially sanctioned local instrument, not a private scrip.
