The Piz Bernina is the highest peak in the Eastern Alps at 4,049 metres, and the only four-thousander in the Alps east of the Maloja Pass — a geographical fact that gave it outsized symbolic weight when Swissmint selected it for this entry in the ongoing Swiss landscape series.
