Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features an elaborate, densely interlaced design of acanthus-style foliate scrollwork filling the entire field, with curling stems and stylized leaves arranged symmetrically around a central floral motif. Within the upper portion of the wreath-like foliate frame, the legend 'TUNISIE' is inscribed in a curved arc, with 'PROTECTORAT FRANCAIS' running along the left and right sides respectively. The partial Christian-era date '194_' appears prominently in the central field. The overall design is enclosed by the coin's reeded rim with no additional border ornament.

Aanvullende informatie

Essai pieces from the French Protectorate of Tunisia were struck in limited numbers as pattern submissions and presentation pieces, never entering general circulation. Muhammad VIII al-Amin was installed as Bey of Tunis by the French in 1943, partly because his predecessor Muhammad VII had been seen as too accommodating to the Axis presence during the North African campaign — a political calculation that made the 1945 essai issues, struck just as the protectorate reasserted administrative control post-liberation, something of a statement coin for the restored French administration.
