Additional information

Issued as part of Spain's long-running Joyas de Numismática series, which the Real Casa de la Moneda has used since the 1990s to produce collector-grade silver coins honoring major figures in Spanish cultural history. Tiziano — known in English as Titian — spent decades in the service of the Spanish Crown, supplying Charles V and later Philip II with portraits, mythological canvases, and religious commissions that shaped the Habsburg image across Europe.

Philip II was among the most devoted patrons Titian ever had, corresponding with him directly and acquiring works that now anchor the Prado's permanent collection.
