Part of Germany's long-running fairy tale series issued under the "Grimms' Märchen" program, this piece was produced the year Germany celebrated the 200th anniversary of the first publication of the Grimms' collection in 1812. The .625 fine silver specification — unusually low for a modern proof commemorative — was a deliberate policy decision by the Bundesfinanzministerium to reduce silver content across the collector series without dropping the silver designation entirely.
Hamburgische Münze struck both a standard (.925) and this reduced-fineness variant simultaneously, creating two distinct KM numbers for the same thematic issue.
