| Additional information |
This piece belongs to Monnaie de Paris's ongoing series documenting the cathedral's reconstruction following the April 2019 fire, which destroyed the spire and most of the roof. The French state committed €700 million in private donations within days of the blaze — an almost unprecedented fundraising velocity for a heritage restoration. Work has proceeded under chief architect Philippe Villeneuve and his successor Rémi Fromont, with the cathedral officially reopening in December 2024, making this 2025 issue the first struck after that milestone was reached.
The billon composition — just a third fine silver — keeps production costs low enough for a mass-circulation commemorative, a format Monnaie de Paris has leaned on heavily since the euro transition.
