Obverse description The obverse reproduces the design of an ancient Hispanic-Greek silver drachma struck after 241 B.C. at the Greek colonial mint of Emporiae (modern Empúries, Girona, Catalonia). The central motif depicts the head of Persephone facing right, rendered in classical Greek style with fine engraving detail. The modern commemorative legend 10 EURO M ESPAÑA 2008 is inscribed around the periphery of the field, identifying the issuing nation, denomination, mint mark, and year of issue.
