| 背面描述 | A composite architectural and historical depiction commemorating the centenary of the Hamburger Elbtunnel. The upper portion of the field presents a cross-sectional view of the tunnel's northern entrance rotunda with its distinctive domed roof, alongside a schematic elevation of the shaft and stairwell structure; to the left, a steam vessel and a sailing ship are depicted on the surface of the River Elbe, evoking the tunnel's original purpose of providing passage beneath the busy waterway. In the center field, a horse-drawn cart traverses the tunnel level, referencing early users of the passage. In the lower field, two parallel tunnel bores are shown in perspective, flanking a central service structure. The legend 100 JAHRE arcs across the upper left field and HAMBURGER ELBTUNNEL runs in a straight legend across the lower central field. |

Issued as part of Germany's ongoing federal commemorative program, in which individual states rotate the privilege of selecting subjects for the 10-euro silver series. Hamburg's choice of the Elbtunnel honored the older of the city's two crossings — the Alter Elbtunnel completed in 1911, making 2011 its centenary. Bored beneath the river by compressed-air workers known as Druckluftarbeiter, the tunnel's construction caused several cases of decompression sickness.
The .625 fineness is specific to this German commemorative series — a deliberate departure from sterling, chosen to control production costs while maintaining a silver product.
