Issued to mark the centenary of the Deutsches Museum, founded in Munich in 1903 by Oskar von Miller. The museum's founding was itself a political negotiation — von Miller spent years lobbying Bavarian and Prussian officials separately, ultimately securing Kaiser Wilhelm II as patron to guarantee imperial legitimacy for what was conceived as a national, not merely regional, institution.
The Bavarian State Mint struck this as part of Germany's rotating commemorative 10-euro silver program, which ran from 2002 until the series was discontinued in 2010 when rising silver prices made the face-value proposition untenable.
