| Obverse description | The central field bears the crowned coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino, depicting three towers atop a stylised mountain on a horizontally striped shield, flanked by an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right. A ribbon scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto LIBERTAS. The legend REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO curves along the upper periphery, while the engraver's signature A. NAPOLIONE appears in small capitals at the lower centre of the field. |

Emilio Greco (1913–1995) was among the most prominent Italian sculptors of the postwar period, best known for the bronze doors he created for the Orvieto Cathedral — a commission that consumed nearly a decade of his career and generated considerable controversy among Italian critics who found his figurative style too sensual for a sacred setting. San Marino has long used its commemorative silver program to honor Italian cultural figures the peninsula itself rarely celebrates on circulating coinage. Greco's centenary year provided the occasion here.
